Todays session was again focused on the use of cutaways to create
a sequence in a news package.
Before the practical task started, I had plenty of ideas of
where to film and the kind of cutaways and overlays
that I wanted to obtain. I didn’t get enough footage to be able to make
sufficent sequences in post production,
however the content that I did
manage to shoot, I feel were good shots
and relevent to some parts of the voiceover. I know that if I had just a little
more time then I could have executed this task to a far better standard.
I found iMovie simple to navigate around, and fairly simple to
use. I got the hang of how to upload videos onto the app, and how to split and
delete shots. It can be a bit fiddly at times which became a little
frustrating when trying to move footage around the timeline, but nothing
so difficult that it stopped me from completing the task. I think
it's one of those things that I will have to keep working with to
eventually get the hang of.
Feedback:
I was praised on my interview shot; the composition,
angles, subject position, focus and brightness were all good.
I need to work on the content of the cutaways that I use. I
need to make sure they support what is being said e.g. When introducing
someone, cutaways can include candid shots of the subject rather than
random shots of signs. I also need to make sure I collect shots that contain
some sort of energy within them, as the shots I have been getting have been
very lifeless and give off the effect of a still shot rather than a moving picture.
