Today's session introduced us to another video editing programme: Adobe Premiere Pro. I found todays session really helpful, as I have actually got over a years experience of using this software, however I haven't used Premiere in around 18 months, so this was a good refresher for me.  I didn't receive any feedback from todays lecturer, Nick. However reflecting on my own work, I am happy with the outcome of the two practical tasks. The first task I completed quickly, as it was a simple drag and drop task, where I had to drag numbers onto the timeline in the correct sequence and also cut and trim the clips to suit.  The second task was more challenging for me, the initial editing side of it was completely fine and I had no trouble with this aspect. However I still find myself taking quite a lot of time choosing the correct overlays and cutaways to include in a news package. Today's session covered how to set up sequences to introduce an interview. I learnt 5 key shots to use as part of this sequence: Midshot Close-up of face Close-up of hands Over the shoulder or POV Something else or 'Artistic/creative' shot For me, this was the most enjoyable practical task so far. I liked the fact that I had a plan of the shots that I needed to capture instead of just thinking on the spot and struggling for ideas whilst out on location. I found it easy to get ideas to have in the content of each shot and completed the task quite quickly. I made sure not to break the 180 degree rule, and film all shots on the same side on the subjects face (To her left or her right) and to not pass the 'invisible' line.  Feedback: I was praised on the overall appearance of my sequence, I created a good shots with good perspectives and a creative 'something else' shot with good control of the depth of field.  I was told that the obje...

Todays session was again focused on the use of cutaways to create a sequence in a news package. Before the practical task started, I had plenty of ideas of where to film and the kind of cutaways and overlays that I wanted to obtain. I didn’t get enough footage to be able to make sufficent sequences in post production,   however the content that   I did manage to shoot,   I feel were good shots and relevent to some parts of the voiceover. I know that if I had just a little more time then I could have executed this task to a far better standard. I found iMovie simple to navigate around, and fairly simple to use. I got the hang of how to upload videos onto the app, and how to split and delete shots. It can be a bit fiddly at times which became a little frustrating when trying to move footage around the timeline, but nothing so difficult that it stopped me from completing the task. We specifically covered: Establishing shots Introduction to interviewee  Cutaways and overlays to mask edit points + break up the interview to give variety I had never heard of the term 'Sequences' used in relation to interviews until todays session, so I found this very helpful and informative. I understand this aspect completey and feel that I applied it well to the practical task. I can defitnley say that I had a lot more control over the overall shot In this weeks task. fiLMING outside, I felt the natural light made the colours within the frame on screen a lot more true to life  compared to last week when I filmed inside with a mixture of yellow artificial light and natural blue light from the windows. Todays' session covered keys aspects of an interview. These include:  Rule of thirds Eyeline Position of interviewer + interviewee Location Angle of shot How to use Mojo Camera Kits I found todays task quite simple as I already had knowledge of interviews from previous studies.   However it was a good recap for me, as I hadn't done interviews in as much depth as this. I learned that its good to try and light one side of the subjects face in an interview, which I hadn't thought about before but applied today. I ensured that the shot wasn't 'flat' by choosing a location that had a lot going on in the background.  I found the software, FiLMiC Pro, simple to use and I got the hang of the focus and brightness features quickly.  Feedback: I was praised on my subjects position in the frame, the  brightness  and location.  The things that I need to work on are as follows: Sound; I didn't really know how to contro...
